David Reed Newton, Sr, the man, the myth, the legend, age 64, died instantly, Tuesday, May 7, 2019, from injuries sustained in a logging accident, in Forest Dale.

 

Mr. Newton was born in Middlebury, on February 17, 1955. He was the son of Philip and June (Narabone) Newton. He grew up in New Haven where he received his early education and attended Mount Abraham Union High School in Bristol. He joined the United States Army and served at Ft. Dix, NJ. Following his discharge, he took a job with Pratt-Whitney Corporation in Meriden, CT. He later worked in the tree removal business, for Joe Levine in Meriden, CT. He returned to Brandon in 1976 and drove truck for Green Mountain Beverage for several years. In 1985 he established his own business; Independent Tree Company; of which he continued operating until his death. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially deep-sea fishing. He loved and was very proud of his family.

 

Surviving are 3 sons; David “Buzzy” Newton, Jr of Mendon, Joshua P. Lester of Springvale, ME and Cody D. Newton of Brandon, a daughter; Becca Adams of Hyannis, MA, 4 brothers; Douglas Newton of Brandon, Jeffrey Newton of Rutland, Bradley Newton of Pittsford and Dean Newton of Middlebury, 2 sisters; Lorrie Palin of Orange and Mary Newton of Forest Dale, the mothers of his children; Christina “Susie” Newton and Kelly Disorda. 8 grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive him. He was predeceased by his parents, a brother; Patrick Newton and a sister; Kelly Newton.

 

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2019, at 12 Noon, at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon. The graveside committal service and burial will follow in Holman Cemetery in Salisbury.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.
