Shirley Louise (Johnson) Christian

Shirley Louise Christian, age 84, passed away May 5, 2026, at Porter Medical Center in Middlebury.

Shirley was born in Hancock on September 20, 1941. She was the daughter of Austin and Katherine (Fielding) Johnson. She grew up in Leicester where she received her early education. September 27, 1959, she married Bill Christian in Orwell. She worked for more than 13 years at the Shoreham Apple Co-op. She had also worked for several professors in Middlebury as a nanny. Shirley was a member of the Orwell Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and the Ladies Auxiliary Unit 19 Bristol American Legion. She belonged to St. Paul’s Church in Orwell.

She is survived by two daughters; Michele Derouchie (Charles) and Roxann Blackmer (Wayne), one son; Dwayne Christian (Jane) One brother; Austin Johnson, Sr, (Sherry) three sisters; Mary Orvis, Barbara Brown and Joyce Willard. 17 grandchildren 18 Great Grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive her. She was predeceased by her husband Bill Christian, a son Rick Christian, a sister; Betha Dewire and a brother; Edward Johnson and a grandson; William Christian III.

The graveside committal service and burial will take place on Monday, May 11, 2026 at 11 AM, at the family lot, in Mountain View Cemetery in Orwell.
