Robert Hayes Sheffer, age 88, peacefully passed away surrounded by family on Monday, November 18, 2024, at Mountain View Center in Rutland.
Robert was born in Orlando, FL on September 24, 1936. He was the son of Harmon and Virginia (Copeland) Sheffer. He grew up in Orlando where he received his early education and graduated from Edgewater High School, in Orlando. He earned his degree from Northrup University in Inglewood, CA. He was employed by IBM Corporation, as an engineer, for more than 30 years. He retired in 1992. He raised his family in Cape Canaveral, FL and Poughkeepsie, NY for many years before moving his family to South Burlington, VT in 1986 and later moved to Brandon, VT in 2002. He was a member of the Neshobe Golf Club. He enjoyed woodworking and playing softball. He had also coached his sons' football teams and refereed basketball.
He is survived by his wife; Ellen Sheffer of Brandon, VT, his son Michael Sheffer of Woodstock, NY; his son Scott Sheffer of Huntersville, NC; his daughter; Candice Cate and her husband Spencer Cate of Stearling, VA; and his son Will Sheffer and his wife Nicole Sheffer of Colchester. He was pre-deceased by his daughter-in-law, Laura Sheffer. Robert has 11 grandchildren: Zach Merritt, Callahan Merritt, Robert Sheffer, Erica Sheffer, Christine Sheffer, Michael Sheffer, Elizabeth Sheffer and Hannah Sheffer, Shannon Day, Isabella Delphia and Jack Sheffer. Seven great-grandchildren also survive him.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, November 22, 2024, at 2 PM at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon. The graveside committal service and burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery. Following the ceremony the family will receive friends at the Neshobe Golf Club, for a time of remembrance.
