N. Richard “Dick” Kirby, age 94, passed peacefully February 8, 2026, at Porter Hospital in Middlebury.
Dick was born in Lynn, Massachusetts on March 19, 1931. He was the son of Nelson and Eleanor (Atherton) Kirby. He grew up in Lynn where he received his early education and graduated from; Lynn Vocational High School, class of 1948. Dick joined the United States Army and served in Korea. Among his numerous military awards is the Combat Infantryman’s Badge. He had also graduated from the Army Ordinance School of Welding. September 2, 1955, he married Deborah Short. They made their home in Brandon where they raised their family. Dick had worked for many years for C.V.P.S. He was a member of Brandon American Legion Post #55.
Surviving is his wife; Deborah Kirby, 3 daughters; Robin Rowe, Carrie Kirby, and Suzanne DeFelice and one son; Scott Kirby. Many grandchildren and great grandchildren also survive him.
Those who wish are invited to the graveside committal service and burial; with Military Honors; which will take place, on June 3, 2026, at 11 AM at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph.
The family will receive friends for a “Celebration of Life” on June 4, 2026 from 12-2 PM, at Brandon American Legion.
Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in his memory to; A charity of one’s choice.
