MIDDLEBURY:
Michael John Ryan, age 63, passed away March 16, 2026, at the University of Vermont Medical Center.
Michael was born in Middlebury on March 9, 1963. He was the son of Robert and Edith (Lilly) Ryan. He grew up in Whiting where he received his early education and Otter Valley Union High School. Following his education, he joined the United State Army. After his Honorable Discharge he returned home to East Middlebury and work with his father in the house painting business. He later worked construction and became a finish & trim carpenter. He loved all sports, especially college football. He was a NASCAR fan and always rooted for the Miami Dolphins.
Surviving are 7 sisters; Joan Vicknair of Rogers, Arkansas, Marilyn Evans of Belleview, FL, Rebecca Ryan of Hinesburg, Deborah Sheldrick of Middlebury, Marjorie Laughlin of St. Albans, Patricia Shackleford (Vernon) of Ocala, FL, and Barbara Kallen (Chris) of Rutland, and 1 brother; Patrick Ryan, of Forest Dale, many nieces, nephews & cousins also survive him. He was predeceased by his son; Christopher Ryan in 1980 and his partner in life; Pam Sands.
A private graveside committal service and burial; with Military Honors; will take place, at a later date, in the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph.
A gathering “In Celebration of His Life” will be held on March 29, 2026 from 12 until 3 PM, at the Middlebury Veterans of Foreign Wars Post on Exchange Street, in Middlebury.
