Michael Francis Rawson, age 73, passed away; with family by his side; on January 24, 2026, at the University of Vermont Medical Center. A selfless man of integrity, humor, and creativity. He lived a life dedicated to his family. As a loving father, he was a guiding light, always offering support, wisdom, and a shoulder to cry on. He worked tirelessly to ensure his family had everything they needed, instilling in his children and grandchildren the values of hard work, compassion, and kindness.
Mike was born in Middlebury on July 27, 1952. He was the son of Curtis and Margaret (Alexander) Rawson. He grew up on the family dairy farm in Whiting. He was a graduate of Otter Valley Union High School, class of 1970. He furthered his education at Vermont Technical College. Michael was a log buyer in the timber industry with Rutland Plywood for over 44 years and Cersosimo Lumber for the last 11 years.
On September 20, 1980, he married the love of his life, Cathy (McKeighan) Rawson. They built a beautiful life together for over 45 years. He enjoyed watching his kids and grandchildren play sports at Otter Valley, never missing a game or event they were part of. He was an avid sports fan and loved all Boston teams, especially the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. In his recent semi-retirement, Mike enjoyed daily walks with his “little buddy”, Waylon and napping with his cat, Willy girl.
Survivors include wife, Cathy (McKeighan) Rawson, one daughter; Jodie Lee Keith and twin sons; Travis and Jared Rawson, a brother Rick Rawson, and a sister Anne Hornbeck, 3 grandchildren, Eric Rowe, Dylan Michael Keith, and Riley Anne Keith, several nieces, nephews & cousins also survive him. He was predeceased by his parents, a son Curtis Michael Rawson and a brother Robert Rawson.
A gathering “In Celebration of His Life” will take place, on February 14, 2026, from 1-3 PM, at the Brandon American Legion.
A private graveside committal service and burial will take place, at a later date, in the family lot, at Pine Hill Cemetery.
