Leona Marilyn (Phelps) Newton

Leona P. Newton, age 89, passed peacefully, July 28, 2024, at Wintergreen North , in Brandon.

Leona was born in Morrisville on June 5, 1935. She was the daughter of Roy and Blanche (Houghton) Phelps. She grew up Morrisville where she received her early education and graduated from Peoples Academy, class of 1953. In October 1955 she married Richard Newton in Morrisville. They made their home in Wells for over 50 years. She had worked as a secretary for Vermont D.M.V. as well as Green Mountain at Fox Run, for several years. She enjoyed cross country skiing, walking, doing puzzles and knitting.

Surviving is 2 daughters; Donna Pinney of West Rutland and Brenda Kelly of Zephyrhills, FL, 2 sons; Steven Newton of Wells and Michael Newton of Kannapolis, NC. 4 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 2 nieces and several cousins also survive her. She was predeceased by her husband in 1995 and a sister; Joyce Paulson in 2015.

A private graveside committal service and burial will take place, at a later date
