Laurie Jeanette Stearns, 82 passed away on Thursday Oct.10, 2024 at her home. She lived her final years in West Rutland where she was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Gilbert Alan Stearns on March 23, 2023.
Laurie was born in Worcester, MA on April 29, 1942 to James Tarvit and Florence (Hebden) Tarvit. She was raised in Bethel, VT with her siblings James Tarvit (Deceased) Howard Tarvit, Ken Tarvit and Dana Brink. Laurie was also predeceased by her brother Henry Therrian. She graduated from Whitcomb High School in 1960.
Laurie was blessed with 5 children; Gordon Stearns of Brandon, Christi Koch of Brandon, Glenn Stearns of West Rutland, and Greg Stearns of Texas. She was predeceased by her eldest son Gilbert Stearns of Worcester, MA. She is also survived by her 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and one in the oven.
Laurie is most proud o the wok she did as a Nutritional Educator for UNH. She helped develop the “Great Beginnings” program for which she won the UNH Presidential Award of Excellence. She finished her career in Rutland County working for the Cooperative Extension Expanded Food and Nutrition Program for UVM.
Laurie grew up hunting, loved gardening and playing cribbage, pitched horseshoes, and coached little league. A private family gathering will take place at a future date.
