Kenneth Merton Atwood, age 93, passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at his home.
Ken was born in Newbury, Vt. on October 26, 1930, son of Jordan F. and Mae (Alden) Atwood. He grew up in Newbury where he received his education. The family moved to Orwell where he started his working career on the family farm, Crescent Orchards. He met and married the love of his life, Kathryn Mae Wetmore, on July 1, 1950. They raised 3 children. Ken also drove milk truck for Ernest Pomainville for several years. He retired in 1993 from the Vt. Dept. of Agriculture Weights and Measures Div. after more than 25 years of service. He played guitar in the family band, "The Atwood’s", formed in 1964. They played at many venues over 30 years. Ken and Kathy both worked part-time at Price Chopper as Super Samplers. He belonged to Independence Masonic Lodge #10 in Orwell and was a past member of the Cairo Temple Shriners of Rutland where he was a flag bearer in the parades.
Ken is survived by 2 daughters, Jeanette Devino of Brandon, Brenda Haskell (Henry) of Salisbury and brother Robert Atwood of W. Newbury, Vt. Grandchildren Kelly Devino & Shawn Devino (Allison), Allison Haskell (Brandon Kummer). Great grandchildren Jadyn & Carson Devino and Zaidyn McGraw. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive him. He was predeceased by his parents, wife Kathryn Atwood, son Stephen Atwood, 2 brothers J. Fred Atwood & Alden Atwood, sister Lola Carpenter and son-in-law Rollie Devino, and a special family friend; Larry Cote.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, July 15, 2024, at 11am at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon. The graveside committal service and burial will follow in the family lot at St. Mary's Cemetery. Following the ceremony the family will receive friends at the Brandon American Legion for a time of remembrance.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, July 14, 2024, from 2-4pm.
