RUTLAND:
Henry Walter Zawistowski, age 90, passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at his home in Rutland.
Henry was born in Rutland on January 7, 1934. He was the son of Walter and Stephania (Dulski) Zawistowski. He grew up in West Rutland where he received his early education. He had worked as a mechanic at Squires Auto and Stenson Ford in Rutland. He entered the Unites States Army in 1956 and served as a Paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Division. Following his Honorable Discharge in 1958, he returned to Rutland and began working, as a mechanic at Tampax for the next 13 years. In 1968 he married Eleanor Mallory and they moved to Arizona, in 1973. He furthered his education and earned a degree in Water and Waste Water from California State University School of Engineering. He also earned a second degree from Yavapai College in Prescott, AZ. He worked as a maintenance mechanic at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and retired in 1995. They returned to Vermont in 2006. He enjoyed NASCAR Racing, Antique Cars, hunting and fishing. He was a member of Brandon American Legion Post #55.
Surviving is his son; David Zawistowski of West Rutland and one daughter; Susan Traegda of Enfield, NH, a step-son; Reginald Ryan of Proctor and a step-daughter; Jean Pellistri of Arizona, and a sister; Joan Sanborn of Florida. Several grandchildren, step-grandchildren and step greatgrandchildren also survive him. He was predeceased by his wife; Eleanor Zawistowski, and a brother John Zawistowski.
A private graveside committal service and burial, with Military Honors, will take place, at a later date.
