Helen Cora “Judy” Mitchell, age 96, passed away March 29, 2026; surrounded by family; in Middlebury.
“Judy” was born in Whiting on September 27, 1929. She was the daughter of Robert Leo and Irene (Swenor) Ryan. She grew up in Orwell where she received her early education and graduated from Shoreham Academy. September 25, 1948, she married Everett “Doc” Mitchell in Whitehall, NY.  Doc and Judy owned and operated the Old Time Family Shop and Doc's Trailer Sales for many years.  Judy enjoyed winters in Florida, horseback riding and playing cards. She also quilted, for Hope Lodge in Burlington. She belonged to Middlebury American Legion Unit #27 Ladies Auxiliary. She had also volunteered at many other organizations. One of her passions was listening to the Champlain Valley Fiddlers. She enjoyed hosting friends and family at her home for parties, dinners, and family gatherings.

She is survived by one son; William R. Mitchell & his wife Christie of Milton, a brother; Clayton Ryan of Shoreham and one sister; Barbara Mazula of Plattsburg, NY. many grandchildren, several great grandchildren and nieces, nephews & cousins also survive her. She was predeceased by her husband Everett "Doc" Mitchell, 2 daughters; Susan Crosby and Nancy Lash, a son; Kenneth Mitchell, 3 brothers; John Ryan, Allen Ryan and Robert Ryan and 2 sisters; Ida Quesnel and Phyllis Quesnel.

A private graveside committal service and burial will take place, at a later date, in the family lot, at Pine Hill Cemetery in Brandon.

Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in her memory to; Hope Lodge, 237 East Avenue, Burlington, VT 05401.
