Gordon Leon Gibbs, Sr.

POULTNEY:

Gordon Leon Gibbs, Sr, age 88, passed peacefully Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

Gordon was born in Hubbardton on June 20, 1937. He was the son of Leon and Cora (Swenor) Gibbs. He grew up in Hubbardton where he received his education. He began his early working years on the farm. He joined the United States Navy in 1954 and served on active duty until 1958. He earned the Good Conduct Medal and the Navy Occupation Service Medal (European Clasp). August 24, 1958, he married Sarah Jane Manning in Hydeville, she predeceased him on June 8, 2020. Gordon had worked for many years at Wiggins Concrete Products and afterwards at Whitcomb Block Company in Springfield. He retired in March of 2000. He was a member of Poultney American Legion Post #39, Poultney Valley Grange and in earlier years Hubbardton Center Grange.

He is survived by his daughter, with whom he made his home; Tina Lynn Gibbs and her husband Thomas Wiese, 3 sons; Gordon L. Gibbs, Jr & his wife Pamela, Leon P. Gibbs, and Allen J. Gibbs, 2 brothers; Gary Gibbs, Dwayne Gibbs. 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews & cousins also survive him. In addition to his wife, he was also predeceased by 2 sons; Michael Gibbs and Wayne Gibbs, a sister; Ruth Smith and 3 brothers; Russell Gibbs, Darwin Gibbs, and Theron Gibbs.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 11 AM, at the Mallory Funeral Home in Fair Haven. The graveside committal service and burial, with Military Honors; will follow, in the family lot, at Lake View Cemetery in Hubbardton.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, October 3, 2025 from 5-7 PM.
