Elvira “Cookie” Blake, age 76, passed away Friday, November 7, 2025, at Porter Nursing Home in Middlebury.
Cookie was born in Middlebury on December 11, 1948. She was the daughter of Archie and Dorothy (Johnson) Dutton. She grew up in Leicester where she received her early education and graduated from Otter Valley Union High School, class of 1968. She began her working years with her mother, at Bloosom’s Restaurant in Leicester and later at Sea Shell City. She worked for more than 25 years at Shapiro’s, Jane’s Dress Shop and The Bargain Center. She retired following the closing of the Bargain Center. Cookie enjoyed her game shows, loved to cook and spend time with her family and watching the Hummingbirds.
She is survived by husband; Gordon Blake; whom she married in Brandon on October 10, 1971, one daughter; Jamie Lynn Blake, 2 sisters; Florence “Tossie” Hemingway and Laurie Ellis, 3 brothers; Dick Dutton, Ron Dutton and William Dutton, and her granddaughter; Breona Blake. She was predececeased by her parents, Archie and Dorothy, and Curt Dutton.
A graveside committal service and burial will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Brookside Cemetery in Leicester.
