She was born on December 18, 1942, in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental Province on Visayas Island of the Philippines, the daughter of the late Amando and Filomena (Miravalles) Valderama and the youngest of 6 children.
Edith graduated from seamstress school at the age of 13 and moved to Pampanga Province on the Island of Luzon with her eldest sister Catalina, after the death of her mother.
In 1969 she met her husband, Gordon E. Austin, stationed on Clark AFB and they married in 1970. They were married 52 years until his passing in 2022.
Until 2000, Edith was a stay home mother and babysitter to the neighborhood children. She was then employed by Castleton University as a housekeeper until her retirement in 2012.
In her retirement she enjoyed playing BINGO, traveling with her daughter and spending time with her family.
Edith was the heart of our family, a woman filled with love, smiles and generosity. While her final years were marked by the effects of progressive Dementia, we remember her for the life she lived to the fullest and will always be remembered for her kindness, love of cooking and baking or feeding anyone who visited her home.
She is survived by her daughter & care provider; Tina Marie Austin and her husband, Mark Williams; with whom she made her home; two sons, Gordon (Gus) S. Austin and Stephen E. Austin, and his wife, Joann, all of Castleton, three grandchildren, Jelani, Oliva and Victoria; one sister-in-law, Norma Jean Galvin and her husband Sean of Fair Haven and several nieces and nephews.
