Arthur Pfenning Obituary

FOREST DALE: Arthur Howard Pfenning, age 87, died Wednesday, June 20,2018, at Wintergreen Residential Care, in Brandon, while receiving services from Bayada Hospice. Mr. Pfenning was born in Leicester, on May 4, 1931. He was the youngest son of Howard and Anna (Palsa) Pfenning. He grew up in Leicester where he received his early education. He graduated from Brandon High School, Class of 1949. Art was a Master Electrician and owned and operated Art’s Electrical Service for many years. He was a Scoutmaster for Pack 123. He was instrumental in the formation of the Brandon Area Rescue Squad. He belonged to the Brandon Historical Society and was a charter member of the Brandon-Forest Dale Lions Club. He was involved in the restoration of the old Brandon Iron Works. In earlier years he had worked as a rural route carrier for the postal service. He had worked part time for the U.S. Forest Service and was very involved in the restoration of Old Brandon, which is located on Hawk Hill. He was a communicant at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife; Jean (Ricard) Pfenning of Forest Dale; whom he married in St. Monica’s Catholic Church on Nov. 19, 1955,a son; Michael Pfenning, COL. USA (Ret) and his wife Sally of Kaiserslautern, Germany, 4 daughters; Nancy Steele and her husband Joe of Fair Haven, Mary Newton and her husband Doug of Brandon, Rhoda Forrest and her husband David of Cannan, NH and Ann Pfenning of Brandon, a sister Linda King of Jonesboro, AR, 9 Grandchildren; Sarah English, Carly Stevens, Molly Newton, Michelle Laughlin, Elizabeth Pfenning, Heidi Forrest, Michael Forrest, Brian Pfenning and Benjamin Pfenning, and 7 Great-Grandchildren; Brianna Stevens-Clark, Dylan Stevens-Clark, Raegan Spencer, Makenna Gatchet, Maci Gatchet, Tristyn Laughlin and Maverick LaRock. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 30, 2018, at 10 AM, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brandon. The Rev. Vincent Onunkwo will be the celebrant. The graveside committal service and burial will follow the mass, at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Friends may call at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon on Friday, June 29, 2018 from 5-7 PM, where Fr. Vincent will conduct a Vigil Service at 6:45 PM. Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in his memory to; Brandon Area Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 232, Brandon, VT 05733 or to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Restoration Fund, 38 Carver Street, Brandon, VT 05733.
