Marie Simone Jacobs, age 98, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 3, 2020, at Helen Porter Health & Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury.

 

Mrs. Jacobs was born in the Bronx, NYC on September 25, 1921. She was the daughter of Auguste and Jeanne (Salles) Codou. She grew up in the Bronx where she received her education. In her earlier years she had worked as a telephone operator at the Lafayette Hotel in New York City. June 20, 1946, she married, “the love of her life” Louis Rowland Jacobs. They made their home on Long Island where she worked as the bookkeeper for her husband’s building business. They moved with their family to Brandon in October 1976, where she continued working with and for her husband, as the bookkeeper for, Lou’s Saw Filing business. Mr. Jacobs predeceased her on November 18, 2002. She enjoyed fishing with her family, was an avid bingo player and did crocheting. She loved animals, and was a member of Brandon American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit #55.

 

She is survived by 3 daughters; Barbara Blanco & her husband Jorge of Claverack, NY, Kathy Hopperstad & her husband Elden of Chase City, VA and Debra Jennings and her husband Kevin of Brandon, 4 grandchildren; Michele Devino & her husband Karl, Christine Coombs & her partner John Bertrand, Allison Devino & her husband Shawn and Daniel Jennings & his partner Brittni Racine, 4 great grandchildren; Justyn Suarez, Joseph Bertrand, Jadyn Devino and Carson Devino. 2 nieces and several cousins also survive her.

 

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2020, at 11 AM, at the Brandon Congregational Church. Rev. Matthew Vonberens, Chaplain at Helen Porter Nursing Home will officiate. Following the ceremony, the family will receive friends, in the downstairs, at the Brandon Town Hall.

 

Friends may call, at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon on Friday, February 7, 2020, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM.

 

Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in her memory to; Rutland County Humane Society, 765 Stevens Road, Pittsford, VT 05763.

 

The family would like to that the staff at Helen Porter Health & Rehabilitation Center, for all of their wonderful care for our mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
