RUTLAND:

 

Richard “Dick” W. Lyon, age 89, died peacefully from a short illness on Sunday, April 21, 2019. He was a kind, fun loving soul who adored his family. He was the only child of Albert and Ann (Kurek) Lyon. He was born in New Rochelle, New York, later traveling with his parents to Burlington, VT. Richard graduated from Burlington High School, University of Vermont and Dowling Green State University in Ohio, with a Masters in Science. Richard enlisted in the U.S. Navy in the Korean Occupation as a corpsman and trained as a medic. His return led his study of bio-chemistry from a professorship at VT College, to chemist as Associates in Internal Medicine. He then opened Lyon’s Lair; a home-based maple syrup/ceramic business. Finally moving on to Vermont Marble Company (later OMYA) as a bio-chemist.

 

Richard is pre-deceased by his parents and former wife; Anita (Kelley) Lyon. Surviving are their children; Kathleen (Lyon) McVey and husband Scott McVey of Pittsford, Kim Lyon-Pratt and husband Zack Pratt of Barstow, CA and Kelley Lyon of Pittsford, VT. He also leaves his current life partner; Patricia Lein of Rutland, VT and her children and grandchildren; Richard Lein and his wife Beruta and their children; Marija and Artur of Paris, France, as ell as Jessica (Lein) O’Brien and her daughter; Marcy O’Brien of Albany, NY, also several cousins in New York and New Jersey.

 

Richard enjoyed gardening, photography, bowling, coin and stamp collecting, fishing and hunting. He loved the adventures, often taking off for the day with his life partner, Pat on one. He also had an infectious sense of humor-often pranking anyone lucky enough to be a part of his global family.

 

There will not be any services. At the family’s request, memorial gifts may be made to; The Rutland County Humane Society, 765 Stevens Road, Pittsford, VT 05763.

 

Life’s too short-laugh out loud, live life to it’s fullest and love often.
