Peter Barrett Lester, age 82, died unexpectedly Thursday, January 31, 2019, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.


Mr. Lester was born in Orwell on August 27, 1936. He was the son of Charles and Lillian (Barber) Lester. He moved with his family to Pittsford at an early age. He grew up in Pittsford where he received his education in local schools. He was a veteran having served in the United States Army. Following his honorable discharge, he returned home. In his early years he had worked in a Hydro Electric Plant In Massachusetts. He had co-owned and operated Lester Brother’s Garage in Forest Dale for many years. He was also a self-employed carpenter. He enjoyed woodworking and metal work. He could make anything out of nothing. He also enjoyed playing the harmonica.


Surviving is his wife; Suzanne (Fallon) Lester of Pittsford; whom he married in Brandon on October 2, 1981, and his children, and 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, his sister; Elizabeth Beaumont of the Upper Peninsula, MI, two brothers; Fred Lester of Pittsfield and Paul Lester of Leicester. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive him. He was predeceased by a son; Daniel Lester in 1995 and two brothers; Jack Lester and Bob Lester.


The memorial service “In Celebration of his Life” will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2019, at 11 AM, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Pittsford. The Rev. Maurice Moreau, pastor will officiate. Following the ceremony, the family will receive friends in the church hall, for a time of remembrance.


The graveside committal service and burial; with military honors; will take place at a later date, in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Brandon.


Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in his memory to; the Rutland County Humane Society, 765 Stevens Road, Pittsford, VT 05763.


Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

Sue and family of Pete:

My deepest condolences to you Sue and family on the sudden passing of Pete.
May your faith, love, and wonderful life together for the years you shared, yet never enough,, sustain you in the light it projects, in your home, projects and great family memories you shared together.

So sorry I cannot be there at this difficult time but mail to come and will be in touch this spring most certainly. God bless and know, he will be looking down and guiding you always.
