Lewis John Hanfield, age 61, died Saturday, October 22, 2016, at Helen Porter Health & Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury.


Mr. Hanfield was born in Rutland on November 22, 1954. He was the son of Raymond and Gertrude (Pulling) Hanfield. He grew up in Brandon where he received his early education and was graduated from Otter Valley Union High School. In his earlier years he had worked the family farm on Wheeler Road. Following graduation he worked farming in Bridport and later in Addison. He has been employed by Nop Brothers Farms since 2008. He enjoyed hunting & fishing and loved going to the Tractor Pulls.


Surviving is his wife; Karen Hanfield of Middlebury; whom he married in Georgetown, NY on August 21, 1999, 2 sons; Lewis John Hanfield, II of Benson and John Raymond Hanfield of Middlebury, 3 brothers; Donald R. Hanfield of Shoreham, Russell P. Hanfield of Rutland and William B. Handfield of Brandon, 4 sisters; Gladys M. Ricketts of Chittenden, Velma E. Blodgette of White River Jct, Edna A. Kerr of Topsham and Sudona L. Hanfield of Leicester. 1 grandson and many nieces, nephews & cousins also survive him. He was predeceased by his parents, a brother; Francis “Herbie” Hanfield and 3 sisters; Martha Handfield, Pauline Emmons and Thelma Savela.


The memorial service “In Celebration Of his Life” will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2016, at 2 PM, at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon. The Rev. Richard White, will officiate. A private graveside committal service and burial will take place, at a later date.
