MIDDLEBURY:

Ruth Annie (VanBuren) Gipson, age 85, died Wednesday, February 03, 2016, at Helen Porter Health & Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury.

Mrs. Gipson was born in Hudson, New York on October 11, 1930. She was the daughter of George and Frances (Rufiange) VanBuren. She came to Middlebury, with her family, as a young child. She grew up in Middlebury where she received her early education, and was graduated from Middlebury High School, class of 1948. She afterwards attended the University Of Vermont. She began her working career in the hospitality business in Daytona Beach, FL and Lake Placid, NY. Returning to Middlebury she worked as a bookkeeper for County Tire. She later worked as a bookkeeper and managed the Battell Block and Marble Works Partners Group, handling the rentals. She retired in 1995. Her passion was music. She had played piano at Porter Nursing Home on Sunday’s for many years. She loved her afternoon drives and doing challenging crossword puzzles. She was a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Middlebury.

Surviving is her husband; Edward M. Gipson, Jr of Middlebury; whom she married November 23, 1963 in Middlebury, 2 sons; David Gipson & his wife Luella of Bridport and John Gipson & his wife Carolyn of Burlington, her sister Carol Comes of Middlebury, a step-brother; Thomas Bullock & his wife Nancy of Reedsburg, WI, 5 grandchildren; Chantal, Lea, Jessica, Christopher and Lauren Gipson and her sister-in-law; Ann R. Gipson of Middlebury. Several nieces, nephews & cousins also survive her. She was predeceased by her parents, 2 brothers; Richard VanBuren and William “Buttons” VanBuren and 11 step brothers and sisters.

Family and friends are invited to a gathering “In Celebration Of Her Life” which will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2016, from 11 AM until 1 PM, at the Middlebury American Legion Post #27. A private graveside committal service and burial will take place at a later date, in Farmingdale Veterans Cemetery in Middlebury.

Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made in her memory to; Addison County Home Health & Hospice, P.O. box 764, Middlebury, VT 05753.
